When the reader first is introduced to Phury you believe that he is just the like the others in the Brotherhood, tall, dark and moody with just a touch of an anger issue. But you quickly learn that Phury has something unique to himself that the other Brothers do not, a trait that is quite human in its intricacies and one that provides enormous complications in his life – drug addiction. Phury is trying to control the wizard that rules his mind and the problems past and present that keep him going back to quiet the demons that plague him by relying on his red smoke. Every day he is less successful with the fight and has wound up with so much out of control that his Brothers no longer trust him or believe in him.

Phury has also complicated his own life but volunteering to be Primale to the Chosen. This was a position he took for Vichious so he could be mated to Jane but the First Mate Phury picks, Cormia, proves to yet another challenge he cannot overcome. He knows that he must move past the problems and help populate the brotherhood but he is less sure of this role everyday but more resolved that he wants only to be with Cormia not all of her “sisters”. But is this something he can accomplish when he can’t even stop himself from destroying his own body with drugs?

With time running out for her Cormia tries to figure out what is the best place for her to be – with the brothers or back with the Chosen. She likes her new friends, the ability to have free thought and just spend her time running through the garden without a care in the world. But while all this is how she likes spending her time Cormia knows that she must get Phury on the right track and convince him that she is the one who can help him pull himself and their race together.

But time is running out for Phury and Cormia because the addiction is taking control fast and the wizard is gaining more power with each passing day and while Cormia knows she loves Phury is that enough to get him past what is driving him to be this out of control.

There are so many side character stories in this book that you never want for something to look forward to with each chapter. There is more to this group than you could ever anticipate or imagine and with the discovery that one of these males is the son of the the Omega you are really left holding you breath until you figure out which one it is. With the Omega bringing his son and war onto the world you are drawn into the depth of these characters and what interesting stories are yet to be told.
