I/m reading this book now, and liking it very much, it's fun to revisit characters from Lisa's other books too

January I just finished Lisa Kleypas's Married by Morning and loved this novel. Grin The repartee or the 'back and forth' between Marks and Leo sometimes are 'laugh out loud' moments. A good Kleypas novel and it was both sexy and romantic. Another keeper for me. Kiss

Like you... I am now looking forward to Beatrix's story in Love in the Afternoon .. Wink

I thought it sounded more interesting than the previous book. I look forward to reading it.  Tongue

My daughter purchased   Love In The Afternoon today. After she reads it,  I am really looking forward to reading it myself.  Smiley

I just finished reading Love in the Afternoon, and I loved it! Beatrix was a terrific heroine and was exactly what the hero, Christopher needed. I can't write too much more, since it needs to go into my review.

I can understand why you didn't enjoy it as much as her previous book Poopy. LitA wasn't very humorous, since Christopher was grappling with ptsd, but there were bits of humor to be found. I laughed out loud during the 'fornicating squirrels' conversation. Too funny! Grin

loved the bit about fornicating squirrels.  Had me laughing out loud.   I liked Love in the Afternoon.  It was darker than Married by Morning...however it was just as satisfying of a read.  Plus, I loved the character of Beatrix.  In a wierd way she reminded me of some of the heroines I've liked in Laura Kinsale books.  Must have been the pet hedgehog, the intelligence etc.

I did, but the part afterward about the veterinary manuals and like I said above, fornicating squirrels and Christoper's reaction to that was what had me really chuckling.  Tongue

It is enjoyable!   Wink  I'm all for love struck heroes ambushing the heroines to surrender

What other books by Jennifer Ashley would you recommend?  I am reading THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE now, because I enjoyed the Isabella one.  Very nice so far!

Immortals: The Calling and Immortals: The Redeeming, although not historical, were really good I thought. Especially The Redeeming, I was figuratively on the edge of my seat through most of that book. I personally enjoyed her paranormals more than her historicals. Paranormals seem to suit her more IMO.

There is more in the series, though I haven't read them, but I'm sure they are just as good.  Smiley

I loved the Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie.  Ian reminded me of someone who is mildly autistic..highly intelligent, can't look people in the face, incredibly honest.  Loved the portrayal and the fact that he goes onto have a normal life however is traits don't change.  After that you should read the Mad, Bad Duke.  Just thinking about that book makes me smile.

I'm read The Dukes Captive by Adele Ashworth.  WOW!  This story reminds me of a cross between Sandra Schwab the Lily Brand and Anna Campbell's Claiming the Courtesan.  Very Dark Intense read.  First part okay but towards the end - it's a mindblower.  Very satisfying read.

Yes!  He sounded interesting in Mac's book and I thought I'd give it a shot.  Loved it, of course!

I'll give the Ashworth a try.  Honestly?  I've never finished a book by her.  I always seem to want to fall asleep after 30 pages or so for some reason

On the plus side, I have just finished reading I KISSED AN EARL and SINCE THE SURRENDER by Julie Anne Long.  Both books are very nice reads, but my big love is still THE SECRET TO SEDUCTION!

I started on MY DANGEROUS DUKE a few days back, but stopped at Chapter 5 or so.  Weird.  I can't remember not wanting to finish Gaelen in the past.  (Witchy, please don't beat me)

I have never read an Adele Ashworth book before so I had no idea what to expect from the Duke's Captive.  I was not intrigued with the first 100 pages however for some strange reason I liked the character of the hero and heroine so I kept reading.  The story stretches the imagination and it left a lot out ...I'll say it in the hands of a Brenda Joyce of the 90's or better yet a Christina Monson (stormfire) of the 80's this book would have been one of the best romance ever.  However in the hands of the author it was a huge wow and this what I got.

1.  One tortured hero who had been captured, drugged, chained and left to die by the heroines crazy older sisters who thinks he was sexually raped by our heroine while he was drugged and chained in the dungeon.
2.  One heroine who as an innocent 18/19 year old had cared fro the tortured hero in his dugged chained in the dungeon state oh yeah and in providing him with nursing care and her bodily warmth ended up making love to him.  The experience expanding her artistic vision to the point that she made a fortune drawing and painting erotic pictures.  (hey I said this was kind of unrealistic)
3.  One night of the heroine being tied up in a cabin with the hero as they he makes love to her.  Some incredibly erotic proise
4.  a forgetable ending however the erotic portion and the tension made the book.  you know the normal happily ever after.  However from about the 1/2 point until chapter before the ending the book rocked.

Oh, thanks for the detailed review!  That keeps me from ignoring the book entirely!  Emo

I have recently finished SHADOWHEART, Kinsale's RITA-winning follow up to FOR MY LADY'S HEART.  It's a great medieval read, with pirate ships, assassins, and a failed love spell to keep the story spicy

It's rougher than the current romance releases so those who are faint of heart, keep away!  Only heroes like me can gobble it up

By the way, what stood out for me for both books was how powerful the medieval church was.  There were chapters in Shadowheart where the hero panics when the heroine would not confess after their wicked night together.   He was afraid she would not get into heaven.

Pretty vulnerable for someone who has poisoned his enemies for his entire life!

Laura Kinsale did a great job of protraying the middle ages and the power and influence of the church.  I loved Shadowheart.  A properly dark and dangerous romance with a hero not to be forgotten.

For some reason Rona Sharon's first book...the one about the pirate ... always has reminded me of Shadowheart.  She is one of very few modern authors that comes close to Laura Kinsale power in telling a story.

Which Rona book is that?  Being compared to Laura Kinsale is a pretty high compliment!

My Wicked Pirate - for some reason, maybe because part of it took place in Italy, this first novel by Rona Sharon reminded me of Shadowheart.  Not sure if it's Italy or that the two hero's had some traits in common.  I'm going to re-read both books so I can see what it is that cause the two books and authors to get linked in my mind.  When I wrote my first posting on My Wicked Pirate...I said that Sharon reminded me of Kinsale.  It might be the character development they both do.

That said Sharon is into vampires now and I tend not to read those books.  Nothing romantic about someone who wants to suck blood.  (my opinion.)

I'm reading a very interesting historical biography on the downfall of Anne Boylen.  It's called Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boylen by Alison Wier (one of my favorite historians for this time period).  It is a phenominal read...although hard in places.  Normally, I have two or three books going at once.  However this book has captured me so there is no romance or business book or physics or philosophy or political book being read at this time.

Anyone who likes history and really great biographies on the Tudoe period...should look into an read Alison Wier's books.  http://www.amazon.com/Lady-Tower-Fall-Anne-Boleyn/dp/0345453212

I so want to read a Laura Kinsale book, I'm not sure which one but from what you said Lynn, Shadowheart sounds promising.  Smiley

I'm still in the middle of reading The Flame and the Flower, it's not bad, it just hasn't commanded my attention.

Not to badmouth the dead or anything like that, but Woodiwiss books are like printed sleeping pills for me.  (Please don't haunt me)

Oh, Shadowheart was definitely fun!  The hero is contrast personified.  He's a career assassin terrified of hell.  (In the first book, FOR MY LADY'S HEART, he's a promising assassin who's terrified of the plague.)

I should say something really nice about Elena, the heroine, but all that leapt to mind is the death of the entire Savernak poultry.  (She was trying to make a love spell)
