Kathleen Givens  ( on: January 05, 2010, 10:12:20 AM)

It's with great sadness that I inform you all that Kathleen Givens passed away suddenly and unexpectedly over the weekend.

Having first been introduced via her book Kilgannon, we often shared emails back and forth and I admit I constantly pestered her for her next book or even spoilers just to keep me going.  I  even spooked her once when I emailed her with what I thought was the perfect title for her next book.  She emailed me back saying how eerie it was that I could nail a title that she had not even mentioned to her editor yet.

I loved her writing.  Kilgannon is one book that made me cry and cry and cry at how much the heroine indured during the novel and in the second novel of the series.

On A Highland Shore though remains my all time favorite from her.  With one spectacular opening that was brutal, but truthful to the era, I was often reminded that this was an author who wrote the truth.  She did not gloss over it, she did not romanticize it nor did she create Politically Correct Hero's or stories.  They were real, they were brutal and they were honest to the era she was writing about.  Her hero's were lovable, stubburn, and determined.  Her heroines were strong capable woman, who endured alot to be with the man they loved.

Her caliber and style of writing is something I am going to miss dearly not to mention the random emails I would get from her just asking how I was doing, it's been awhile since we talked. She was a kind considerate lady and one who will be dearly missed.

Kathleen was one of the original "Whine Sisters"  They have a wonderful tribute on their blog sharing how they met her and how she influnenced and supported them over the years.  You can read it below.

I'm in tears.  It's like an old friend has just died.  I loved her writing so and was looking forward to future books from her...now I'll just re-read the wonderful books that she wrote over and over again.  thank you for letting us know.
