Iris Johansen fans, guess what?!!  ( on: September 06, 2008, 02:14:55 AM)

After ten long years, Iris Johansen has finally written another historical romance!! In my opinion, she is one of the best in the business and it was a wonderful surprise to find out that on December 9 of this year, we will lose ourselves in another one of her epic historicals. Dorie, I know you thought this day would never come but didn't I keep telling you never say never? I hope it lives up to your expectations.

Here's the cover (it's a hardcover) and synopsis:

Iris Johansen fans, guess what?!!

An ex-harem slave...

A reformed assassin...

A race to find the most powerful
religious artifact of all time...

New York Times
bestselling author Iris Johansen returns with her first historical romance in a decade, a new novel of passion and exotic adventure that leads two unlikely and unforgettable treasure hunters on a perilous journey—and into the heart of one of the most captivating mysteries of all time.

Lady Selene Ware had been nothing more than a harem slave when Kadar Ben Arnaud—a man once trained in the black arts of death and seduction—helped her escape to the safety of her native Scotland. But even a world away she still wasn't safe from the sheikh who claimed her as his stolen property—and who now forced both her and Kadar to return with a chance to win their freedom. There is, of course, a catch. First they must find the legendary religious relic that men of power have searched for from King Arthur's time to the present.

For Selene and the ex-assassin, it is a dangerous odyssey that begins in erotic captivity and leads to an encounter with the mysterious and reclusive Tarik, who now possesses the treasure. But the truth is far more explosive, the stakes far more deadly, and the closer they come to discovering the secret, the closer they will come to losing each other—and their lives. For even as Selene grasps the key to this age-old mystery, Kadar may have to step over the fine line separating the dark path from the light to save her.

~It is a sequel to The Lion's Bride which was one of my favorites by her. It sounds like another sweeping adventure. I look forward to reading it.

ETA: I just found an excerpt online: The Treasure Excerpt

YEAH!!!! I love Iris Johansen's historical romances.  All of them are on my keeper shelf.  And I'm anxiously awaiting the release of this new novel.  Something to look forward too.  Hope she hasn't lost her edge.

I had that same reaction, Adair.  Grin

I never thought she would write another, as Terri said, but I guess I was wrong. I can't wait for it to come out. I might even have to re-read The Lion's Bride.

I know a lot of my favorites have lost their edge, but I guess it happens over time. But I hope that Iris hasn't, and from the excerpt things are looking good.

Maybe because in the Wind Dancer they were after the statue but this one is a holy relic, so it's different.  Grin

I can't really remember The Lion's Bride, which is bad. I mean I remember the gist of it and that he was a Knight's Templar who left because he saw something, which is probably the relic they are looking for.

I never thought that Selene and Kadar would get a book, but I guess things were kind of left open and it's the perfect start for a book, whereas other books, like Midnight Warrior, the secondary romance was finished in the book.

Ah, Malik and Adwen were terrific. The thing I've always found (speaking for myself) while reading an Iris Johansen novel is that the secondary romances are just as good (and sometimes better) than the lead protagonists. Which is the case in Midnight Warrior, Gage and Brynn were great, but my heart belongs to Malik and Adwen. The same goes for Dorie's favorite book Storm Winds, Jean Marc and Juliette didn't hold a candle to Catherine and Francois. OK Dorie, lets hear it. I know it's coming, lol!

I was wondering this too, I think Adair said she was going to wait until it was out on paperback. I was hoping someone would let me know how it was.  Grin
